The Javett-UP, a Public Benefit Organisation, was born from the vision of its founding partners, the University of Pretoria, and the Javett Foundation, to create a home in South Africa for the art and cultural heritage of Africa. They have made significant investments to bring to life their vision for a thriving art centre that not only houses and exhibits the work of great African artists, but that is also a centre of transdisciplinary research and artistic education excellence.

The Javett-UP has become a pre-eminent art institution in Gauteng, offering exciting, relevant and engaging programmes throughout the year. We curate exhibitions that inspire, entertain, provoke, and question. We offer a sacred space, where ideas are prized, creativity is celebrated, and where problems can be solved. For the curious, we offer provocation and delight; for the broken-hearted, we give solace; for the jaded, we give renewal.We want our art centre to be a place where everyone feels at home. This is a public space to engage with the art and cultural heritage of Africa, while being deeply embedded in an internationally ranked South African university.
